Paola Bonizzoni

Migration, Diversity and Development Policies

Paola Bonizzoni holds a PhD in Sociology (2008) and is a full professor in the Department of Social and Political Sciences at the University of Milan, where she teaches Globalization, Diversity and Inequality and Society and Social Change. Her recent work focuses on migration and civil society, with particular emphasis on the role of volunteers in refugee reception and on legal-administrative intermediation in migration policies. She is the Principal Investigator of the project VoLacross – Volunteering Across Crises and coordinates a research unit for the H2020 project AspirE – Asian Prospects in (Re)migration to/within the EU.

His research interests concern comparative welfare systems and political economy, particularly social and labour policies. In particular, his research project concerns the social policy trajectories of European welfare states to mitigate the adverse effects of technological change on workers.

His research interests include comparative welfare state analysis, labour market policies and the politics of EU social policy, which he addresses through both quantitative and qualitative methods. More recently, he has been studying the social consequences of the green transition and the provision of occupational welfare in Italy.
